Tour FAQ

BOOKING A WINE TOUR

What’s the difference between a mixed group and private group tour?

A mixed group tour (sometimes called a ‘join-in tour’ or ‘public tour’) is when you reserve a handful of places. Other folks might reserve the remaining places. It’s a great way to meet new people and–especially for couples and smaller groups–to enjoy a wine tour without the expense of reserving an entire tour for yourself.

On the flip side, a private group tour is when you do want to reserve our entire tour for your group. Ash Ridge can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests. This is a great option for corporate outings, wine clubs, reunions, and other special occasions.

May I bring my kids on the tour?

Yes, if they are adults! The Vineyard and Winery Tour is open to any person age 18 and over who wishes to learn a little more about wine. For younger children, we advise against it. They may have little interest in the subject matter and may find it difficult to sit still for the duration of the wine tasting, and we don't want them to disrupt the other guests. In addition we are walking through a farm with many hazards. We cannot have children running around

What is Ash Ridge's cancellation policy?

Many aspects of our wine tours are coordinated in advance. However, we understand plans may change. Guests who contact us to cancel 10 days or more before their tour date will receive a full refund.

Guests who contact us with less than 10 days notice will not receive a refund--but they may reschedule their tour to another date, subject to availability.

Does Ash Ridge offer gift cards?

We sure do! You can purchase them through our booking system.

What if the weather is iffy on the day of my tour?

“If its sunny or the rain is pouring, we ar touring!” We have umbrellas to use when doing the vineyard tour and walking to and from the winery. The wine tasting is conducted in our Cellar Door, so there is no reason for the tour to take place.

DURING THE WINE TOUR

What time will we have to be there?

We advise you to be at the Ash Ridge Cellar Door 10 to 20 minutes before the tour's start time of 11:00am. We start promptly. so best not be late.

How many people are in a tour group?

We can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in our private tasting room. Big enough for you and your friends, but not so big that you feel lost in a crowd!

How many wines will we taste?

We have six wines that we taste with the tour. This is a sample from our range of 15 wines that we make and we hope to give you a good idea of the different techniques in wine making.

May I pick which wine I taste?

We pick a selection of wines that we feel cover the different variations and styles for wine tasting, that cover different wine making techniques that you can begin to appreciate during a wine tasting.

Private group tours may be able to pick which wines they may want to taste – subject to the wines still being in stock  – or we can guide you on a range for a specific purpose. Please note: the tasting selection must be finalized and communicated to us at least 48 hours in advance of the tour.

How much time will we spend ?

The total tour is approximately two hours long. The first 45 minutes is spent in the vineyard walking through the different blocks. We will then spend another 30 minutes at the winery before returning to the cellar door and spending aproximately 45 minutes on a tutored tasting.

What should I wear / bring with me?

We recommend comfy walking shoes and dressing according to the day’s weather forecast. Hats, Sunglasses and Sun block are all good things to bring.

If you look under 25 years, we require that you bring photo ID for proof of age. This can be in the form of a NZ Driving license, HANZ 18+ Card or passsport. Don't forget cash or credit to cover wine tasting fees and anything else you wish to purchase.

Do you provide a meal during the tour? May I bring my own food?

We don’t provide a meal doring the Vineyard and Winery Tour. We do ahve a samlla cafe at Ash Ridge where you can get a pizza or a platter after the tour. We do not allow people to bring their own food or picnics.
