Wine, Boots & All Blog
Welcome to the Ash Ridge blog, here is where we will be highlighting events and news about our wines and from around the winery.
Vineyard:
The window between the end of harvest and the beginning of budburst is quickly closing, and we have been busy trying to prepare the vineyard for spring. The entire crew is out—cows, sheep, Winston the Golden Lab, and the pruning gang—ensuring the vines are pruned, the sward is managed, and the soil is fully stocked with both Macro and Micronutrients. We are keen to hear some suggestions for what you would love to see being planted, we currently grow organic Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Syrah.
Winery:
Similar to the vineyard, there has been quite a buzz happening around the winery. Lots of topping, sulphuring, and blending are underway. A few of you may have even been lucky enough to join us for our Blending Afternoon that occurred on the 22nd of July. A special congratulations must be made to the winning team for creating the closest blend to what was bottled on the 8th of August as our 2021 Malbec, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon Bordeaux Blend.
Cellar Door:
It has been quite quiet at the cellar door over the last couple of months, but the winter chills seem to be to blame. We would love to have you out for a tasting, a bite to eat, and a catchup! The winter specials have been quite a hit, with the baked brie and Mediterranean pizza being very popular! With the weather warming up, look forward to some fresh spring-themed specials!
Other Happenings:
· New Labels! Alongside our Elodie and Maximus labels we will soon release our inaugural Chenin Blanc, celebrating our first-born Imogen – more on that in the next update. Some of the new releases are of limited availability and will only be available to Ash Ridge Wine Club members.
Upcoming Events: a trip back in time.
Saturday, September 2nd, we are hosting a bus trip, wine and food matching experience - firstly to the Junction Wines Cellar Door, the origin of our Ashworth Family Wines journey, where Leith, alongside his parents ex All Black John and Jo will welcome you and host a wine and cheese tasting in their rustic, rugby inspired Cellar Door on the family farm. The journey through the past then continues to Oruawharo Homestead with bubbles and canapes on arrival, followed by an exclusive tour of the 150-year-old homestead and an exquisite dinner and dessert menu paired with matching wines! $180 ($165 for wine club members) tickets include transport, wine tasing and cheese board at Junction Wines cellar door, bubbles, canapés, dinner and dessert with wine matches at Oruawharo.
